Thangka Paintings Online
A Tibetan Thangka painting is a painted or embroidered banner which was hung in a monastery or a family altar and carried by lamas in ceremonial processions. On the basis of techniques involved and materials used thangkas can be grouped into several categories. Generally they are divided into two broad categories: those which are painted (called bris-than in Tibetan) and those which are made of silk either by weaving or with embroidery called (gos-than). Be it a Mandala painting or a thangka depicting Tibetan deities such as Goddess Tara, Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig), Manjushri, Padmasambhava, a buddhist thangka will always remain an important facet of Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan Art.

Lifting Mount Govardhana – The Crowning of Krishna as Govinda

"Rama instructed Hanuman to establish the mountain near the banks of the river Yamuna at Vrindavana, where in His Krishna avatara He would play with his bare feet....So than sprung from the feet of Govardhana, the river Ganga, known as Manasi Ganga....Krishna initiated one of the most fascinating of all His Lilas....Overflowing with emotion, the residents of Vrindavana rushed to Him. Many of them embraced Him....God’s Lila doesn’t fulfill only a single purpose....Krishna’s mother Yashoda too got wind of the conversation. Consequently, there started blowing in her mind winds of doubt....Krishna always lives in the eyes of the gopis of Vrindavana....God’s exceptional love for cows is made amply evident in this Lila."

"The fish which lives deep in the sea gets caught, the deer which runs faster than the wind gets bound, even the bird, which can discern a piece of meat from a distance of several miles cannot see the net nearby - all because of the vagaries of fate."

- Padma Purana. 2.81.28-29
